Recently The United Nations Climate Conference (COP23) in Bonn, Germany, has come to an end, having set the new milestones and objectives for sustainable future. The conference, which ran from 6th to 17th of November, was an influential and large-scale event that brought together more than 27.000 participants from all over the world towards the main common objective – forcing of Paris Agreement implementation and the 2030 Agenda Sustainable Development Goals achievement.
This year’s area of concern was a question of maintaining the momentum two years after the adoption of the Paris Agreement on climate change in the context of the United States withdrawal from the accord. However, the evidence shows that this circumstance provoked an unprecedented wave of support for Agreement – it has been ratified by 170 countries by now.
Apart from negotiations among Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), States and non-State actors in the different areas announced several new climate action initiatives, commitments and partnerships: energy, water, agriculture, transportation, industry, etc. Climate finance and climate resilience were also at the centre of the discussions at the conference.
MIRAI INTEX had a chance to take part in this conference and to communicate with other participants about the progress made so far, to discuss the ambitious plans of “zero carbon world” transition by 2050. As party members were negotiating on the details of the collaborative action plan since 2020, the other non-party half of visitors and exhibitors were presenting their research findings, innovative technologies and proposing new ways to make our living more sustainable. From solar panels to smart grids and climate insurance, COP23 made it clear that business is serious about low-carbon transition relying on the success of energy transformation into other sectors – such as transport, agriculture and industry.
As a manufacturer of eco-friendly HVAC&R equipment, MIRAI INTEX is supportive of climate action initiatives and global movement towards a sustainable future through implementation and wide usage of eco-friendly technologies and we hope that HVAC&R would be one of the trendsetters for these technologies.
In conclusion, COP23 was an important milestone on the road to implementing the Paris Agreement. Business community should accumulate efforts in a deal of climate change mitigation and show more engagement in structured dialogues with policymakers and to move forward in delivering solutions, as well as policymakers should create legally binding agreements to prevent the least collaborative countries from lagging behind.
